We invite you to participate in this annual gathering of agencies, organizations, and activists dedicated to improving the lives of farmworkers and their families. Summit participants share skills, knowledge, and resources through presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities. Farmworker advocates from across the state will have the chance to learn from and update one another on the latest issues affecting North Carolina farmworkers. Approximately 150 people attend the event.

Le invitamos a participar en esta reunión anual de agencias, organizaciones y activistas dedicados a mejorar las vidas de los trabajadores agrícolas y sus familias. Los participantes de la cumbre comparten habilidades, conocimientos y recursos a través de sus presentaciones, talleres y oportunidades para desarrollar redes de contactos. Personas de diferentes partes del estado que participan en actividades de defensa a favor de los trabajadores agrícolas tendrán la oportunidad de aprender y ponerse al día sobre los temas de actualidad que afectan a los trabajadores agrícolas de Carolina del Norte. Aproximadamente 150 personas asisten al evento.

Who Should Participate? / ¿Quién debe participar?
Everyone is welcome to participate. The focus of the event is to attract individuals that are dedicated to improving the living and working conditions of farmworkers in North Carolina. You are encouraged to attend if you work at a non-profit and/or heath care organization, labor union, government agency, faith-based congregation, and/or university or school.
Todos son bienvenidos a participar. El evento será de interés en especial a personas dedicadas a mejorar las condiciones de vida y de trabajo de los trabajadores agrícolas en Carolina del Norte. Le animamos a asistir si trabaje en una organización sin fines de lucro y/o de salud, sindicato, agencia gubernamental, grupo religioso/basado en la fe y/o universidad o escuela.
Workshops/ Talleres
We invite you to submit a proposal for a workshop or an outreach skill share for the 2014 NC Farmworker Institute. Proposals are due by February 28, 2014. To receive a Workshop Proposal Form, contact Anna Jensen, anna@toxicfreenc.org
Proposal Guidelines:
- Presentations should relate to farmworker issues, including but not limited to education, health, immigration, law and policy, advocacy and organizing, or farmworker youth.
- As much as possible, workshops should include opportunities for interactive activities and group discussion.
- Workshop presentations should be either 90 minutes minutes in length, including 15 to 20 minutes for questions.
- Outreach skill share presentations should be 5-10 minutes in length and should focus on effective and innovative strategies for outreach workers in migrant education, legal aid, farmworker health, or community organizing. These will be featured together with other presenters in a session dedicated to the exchange of outreach practices, resources and skills.
Le invitamos a enviar una propuesta para presentar un taller o compartir consejos para realizar trabajo de alcance para el Instituto para Trabajadores Agrícolas de Carolina del Norte en 2014. La fecha límite para enviar propuestas es el 28 de febrero de 2014. Para recibir un formulario de propuesta para un taller, contactar a Anna Jensen, anna@toxicfreenc.org
Pautas para las propuestas:
- Las presentaciones deben ser relacionadas con los trabajadores agrícolas y los siguientes temas: educación, salud, inmigración, leyes y política, defensa y trabajo de organización, jóvenes y más.
- Tanto como sea posible, los talleres deben incluir actividades interactivas y discusiones en grupo.
- Las presentaciones de talleres deben ser de 90 minutos , incluyendo 15 a 20 minutos para preguntas.
- Las presentaciones para compartir consejos y habilidades para realizar trabajo de alcance deben ser de 5 a 10 minutos y deben centrarse en estrategias efectivas e innovadoras para trabajadores de alcance en las áreas de educación para migrantes, asistencia legal, salud de los trabajadores agrícolas u organización comunitaria. Éstas serán parte de una sesión que incluirá a otros presentadores que compartirán prácticas, recursos y habilidades de trabajo de alcance.
Language/ Idioma
Some workshops will only be in Spanish and some will only be in English. There will be interpretation available throughout the day. The final agenda will indicate the language of each presentation.
Algunos talleres se ofrecerán únicamente en español y otros en inglés. Se ofrecerán servicios de interpretación durante el día entero. La agenda indicará el idioma de cada taller.

Registration Fees/ Cuota de inscripción
The registration fee is $30 and covers light breakfast, lunch, materials, and all workshop sessions. Registration fee at the door will be $35. Please consider sponsoring the event! Sponsors can be organizations or individuals. Sponsors will be listed on the event program.
Checks should be made out to Student Action with Farmworkers or SAF. Be sure to include “NC Farmworker Institute” in the memo. SAF’s Tax ID #: 56-1789014.

A limited number of registration fees can be waived for students and/or farmworkers if needed. If you would like to request that your registration fee be waived, contact Yazmin Garcia Rico before April 1th at (919) 660-3674, yazmingr@saf-unite.org.
La cuota de inscripción es de $30 e incluye desayuno y almuerzo ligero, materiales y todas las sesiones del taller.
