Dear friends,

Welcome to my fundraising page. As a fellow for Student Action with Farmworkers Into the Fields program, I am excited to start a fundraising campaign to support SAF and their work towards empowering farmworkers and their right to quality primary health care services.

From April 16-20, I will be trying to raise at least $850. Donate Now!

Since I started studying international studies at NC State, I had always been more focused on global issues and helping underserved populations abroad. This shifted when I started to do health outreach and social justice work in North Carolina, and learned about local communities in need. As an intern for the social justice non-profit Witness for Peace Southeast, I learned not only about human rights and policy in Latin America, but about pertinent issues in the Latinx community in North Carolina such as farmworker rights, immigration and lack of access to legal aid and health care. This shifted my focus to migrant and seasonal farmworkers in North Carolina, an underserved population deserving of quality primary care services.

Farm labor is one of the most dangerous fields in the United States, and farm workers suffer extreme working conditions, chemical and pesticide exposure, and poor sanitation. Farm workers deserve access to quality health care because it is a human right, and no group should be denied health services because of their occupation. Many laborers lack transportation, adequate compensation and insurance to access health services, or fear reaching out due to anti-immigrant sentiments. SAF helps connect farm workers with organizations like Piedmont Health Services to provide outreach and health education to these underserved communities in need of health care.

As an Into the Fields fellow, I will be working to support and empower the Latinx farmworker community by improving their access to health care. In June I begin my fellowship at Piedmont Health Services in Moncure, NC to conduct health evaluations and health education for over 100 farmworkers in the Piedmont.

Please join me in helping to improve the lives of farmworkers in North Carolina and support the work of SAF. Thank you for your consideration!
