Yo he visitado muchos campos de trabajo y he visto con mis propios ojos las condiciones inhumanas en las que viven y trabajan miles de hombres, mujeres y niños. Es difícil creer que estas condiciones todavía existan en este país. La mayoría de estos trabajadores son nuestros compatriotas de México, Puerto Rico y otros países en Latinoamérica. Yo apoyo a Estudiantes en Acción con Campesinos (SAF) porque ellos luchan por condiciones justas y son una de las organizaciones mejor administradas que conozco. Somos tan afortunados de tener comida saludable gracias a los campesinos que siento que es lo menos que puedo hacer para ayudar a que puedan vivir y trabajar con dignidad. Do you know where the fruits and vegetable you eat come from? 85% of fruits and vegetables in the U.S. are harvested by hand by farmworkers. I have visited many farmworker camps and have seen with my own eyes the substandard conditions in which thousands of men, women and children live and work. I could not believe these conditions still existed in this country. The majority of these farmworkers are our fellow countrymen from Mexico, Puerto Rico and many other places in Latin America. I support SAF because they fight for fair working and living conditions for farmworkers, and they are one of the best managed organizations I know. I am so fortunate to have access to healthy food thanks to a farmworker. It is only fair that I do what I can so that workers can live and work with dignity. SAF uses money raised from individuals to:
- conduct outreach to students and farmworkers,
- provide training, stipends, and scholarships for our interns, students organizers, and youth,
- share documentaries and presentations with the general public, and
- provide a living wage and full benefits to our staff
