Having grown up in an immigrant-heavy community and witnessed firsthand the health disparities that exist in labor-intensive jobs, I've made fighting for immigrant rights an inextricable part of my identity. Throughout my time at Davidson College, I’ve taken courses and sought opportunities that have made me a stronger advocate.

This summer is no different- I have the amazing opportunity to work as a Farmworker Health Intern with Student Action for Farmworkers (SAF), through their Into the Fields program. I will be working at Surry Medical Ministries in Mt. Airy as a part of their Farmworker Health team. This immersive internship will provide invaluable experience in taking care of the hands that feed us. I'll learn more about the invaluable nature of primary intervention and the promotion of health access, all of which will further inform my path to becoming a primary care physician who prioritizes serving the overlooked minority community.

Our goal of raising $750 for SAF ensures it can continue uniting students and organizations to work together to promote justice in the agricultural system, health, and well-being for all farm workers and their families. In addition to maintaining these community partnerships, funds go towards ensuring these opportunities remain accessible to any student committed to advocacy work, mitigating barriers such as travel and housing expenses.

Habiendo crecido en una comunidad con una gran población inmigrante y observado de primera mano las disparidades en la salud en el trabajo intensivo, he hecho la lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes una parte inseparable de mi identidad. Durante mis últimos 3 años en Davidson College, he tomado cursos y buscado oportunidades que me han convertido en una defensora más firme.

Este verano no es diferente: tengo la increíble oportunidad de trabajar como pasante de Salud para Trabajadores Agrícolas con Student Action for Farmworkers (SAF), a través del programa Into the Fields.
