Hello friends and family,

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Please read my story and support my work for this summer!

What am I doing?

This summer I have the unbelievable opportunity to work with Student Action with Farmworkers, as an Into the Fields Intern. Specifically, I am working at Toxic Free NC to advocate against the use of harmful pesticides, to educate farmworkers on the issue, and to explore sustainable alternatives. I also get to develop my proficiency in the Spanish language. To say the least, this my dream internship!

Why?

During college, I first learned about our food systems, industrial agriculture, and  sustainability through local community initiatives. For the majority of my life, I was indifferent and unaware of the conditions, practices, and injustices under which the United States food systems operate. Food was just… food. As long as it tasted good, I wasn’t concerned with where it came from or how it got to my plate. But now I understand that there is so much more behind the food on my plate. First and foremost, there are people. People who suffer from pesticide exposure and develop cancers, whose children are born with birth defects, who lack access to proper health care, and who lack a voice. My passion is the development of safe, just, and healthy food systems, and in order to make a difference in our communities and in our society, we must first listen to the people that feed us, our farmworkers.

How you can help me!

SAF will train me, house me, and provide a stipend. Therefore, I am required to  raise $650 to help defray the costs of the program. My fundraising goal is $1,000 because I want to contribute to SAF, which has been so influential in the lives of many people. I really appreciate your help in reaching my goal; donations of all sizes are welcome and are equally important to the cause.

Thank you all so much and have an awesome day!
